With two pathways tailored for those aiming for Level 6 (Degree) or Level 7 (Master’s), participants will be supported in crafting engaging oral presentations and written assignments. Hands-on workshops, real-world case studies, and expert-led sessions by well-respected clinicians will elevate your own clinical practice. This fast paced, interactive module is designed to develop advanced skills, knowledge and expertise in stoma care.

It has been designed to allow nurses working in stoma care to build upon their previous physiological, psychological and social knowledge base. To facilitate the development of professional critical analysis/synthesis, reflective and thinking skills.

PCPH 5020 Level 7 – (30 credits/Master level)

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to:

• Have attained a degree at 2:2 level or above (PCPH 5020 level 7 only)
• Attend all six formal study days as details below
• Deliver a 10 minute presentation to peers
• Produce a 3000 word assignment

Level 7 Master’s learning outcomes:

• Review the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal  tract / urinary tract and related organs.
• Apply professional knowledge and skills to critically assess and synthesise the planning, management and evaluation of a holistic patient assessment.
• Critically examine with key themes encompassing principles of care for the patient, who is to undergo the formation of a stoma utilising individualsed and appropriate interventions both in hospital and in the community from admission to discharge.
• Critically review and synthesise key issues that relate to the concepts of health, rehabilitation and adaption in the concept of stoma forming surgery including pre, peri, post-operative, rehabilitative management and education of the new ostomist.
• Apply professional knowledge and skills to critically analyse and synthesise physical, social and psychological problems that the ostomist may have including fistulae formation, sexual dysfunction, changes to body image.
• Critically analyse professional issues related to stoma care including the principles of multidisciplinary team work, pharmacological care and current professional nursing agenda.

PCPH 3020 Level 6 – (30 credits/Degree level)

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to:

• Be postgraduate nurses studying to degree level
• Attend all six formal study days as details below
• Deliver a 10 minute presentation to peers
• Produce a 3000 word assignment

Level 6 learning outcomes:

• The learning outcomes are very similar to Level 7 (see above) but reflect degree level learning skill.
